Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

Ten years ago a semi-popular development team, Bungie, release Halo: Combat Evolved. This marked one of Bungie’s all time best selling games. Halo, now under the care of 343 industries, is one of the Xbox 360′s best selling franchises. This year 343 industries release an HD remake of the cult classic; Halo: Anniversary.

The campaign itself is exactly how I remember it. With the exception of the graphics utilizing a more modern graphics engine, the “Reach” engine, this remake calls for loads of nostalgia. The ability to switch between the classic and modern graphics in a press of a button heavily influenced my decision to buy the game. However, I was very disappointed in the amount of time required to switch between the engines. By the time the new graphics appears, I’ve long forgotten what I was trying to compare.

The multiplayer, which includes a remake of the Halo 2 map “Headlong” (now called Breakneck), is practically Halo: Reach’s multiplayer with some classic game modes. Nothing special here. For a $40 retail price, which is bound to drop soon, I’d recommend picking this title up. The maps included with the multiplayer are also available as a map pack for Halo: Reach.
