Today, just four days after the North American release of Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS, Nintendo announced the release date for the Wii U version. As many of the earlier rumors indicated, the game is coming out on November 21st in North America, which incidentally happens to be a week before black Friday, and the same day that Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby are being released. Nintendo also announced that the game will be released in Europe on December 5th, and Australia on December 6th.
Alongside this release date reveal, Nintendo also revealed that Super Smash Bros. on 3DS had already sold 2.8 million units. This includes both physical and digital units worldwide.
Nintendo also stated that the adapter to enable the use of GameCube controllers on the Wii U, which is also being released on November 21st, would support the now discontinued wireless Wavebird controller. Nintendo also announced that in addition to the already announced Amiibo figures, addition figures for Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon were being released in December.
Amiibos will be compatible with the Wii U at launch, however they will require an additional peripheral in order to function with the 3DS. The upcoming New 3DS will function with amiibos without any extra peripherals.
