Bayonetta 2 is off to a slow start in Japan, selling only 38,828 copies since release, according to 4gamer. By comparison, the original Bayonetta sold nearly 200,000 units during the first week of release (135,242 copies on the PlayStation 3, and 64,325 copies on the Xbox 360). It is worth noting however that Bayonetta 2 only released on Saturday, September 20th in Japan, so a full week has not yet gone by with which to measure the sales of Bayonetta 2.
This comes in spite of the game's positive reviews. Receiving 10/10 in UK publication Edge, along with 38/40 in Japan publication Famitsu.
As previously announced, Bayonetta 2 will allow players to use a Star Fox, Link, Peach, Daisy and Samus costumes. The physical game also comes bundled with the original Bayonetta. Those purchasing the digital version will receive a discount on the original Bayonetta, but they will still need to buy the games separately in order to play it. The file size of the games are 14.6GB for Bayonetta 2, and 17.6 for the original Bayonetta, meaning both of them together are 32.2 GB, which is more storage than the deluxe Wii U has. Bayonetta 2 will be released on October 24th in North America.
Update: Dengeki has an even lower sales figure number. They estimate that Bayonetta 2 only sold approximately 28,000 copies.
