I recently found out that the Battlefield 3 beta, that started in September, is open to anybody with an Xbox LIVE, PlayStation 3, or PC. I downloaded the 1.2GB file with low expectations.

Please note the following is based on the Xbox 360 version of the beta:

The beta menu alone caught my eye. It was quick, smooth, to the point, and had plenty of information. The only playable map is Operation Metro and it only allows for a single game mode; Rush. The controls are everything you would come to expect from a Battlefield game War game.

The gun play is amazing. Unlike similar war games I have played, such as Call of Duty, the gun play feels solid. Shooting a bullet on demand never felt so satisfying. The beta, though it only contains one game mode on a single map, kept me playing for hours. The map is huge.

If you have a couple hours of free time, have a itchy trigger finger, and an at least decent internet connection, I highly recommend downloading the Battlefield 3 beta, which will end mid-October.
