Mario Kart Double Dash Review Mario Kart Double Dash was a racing game released for GameCube back in 2003. Mario Kart DD is a very fun and addicting game, and one of the most entertaining ones, only because its old and doesn't have Wi-Fi, doesn't mean its a bad game. Graphics: Its a Mario game, so what do you expect? Cartoon characters and so. Sound: It has great sound, when characters get hit, the stage theme, its good. Gameplay: This is the only Mario Kart game, till this date, that lets you drive with two characters at the game time. The one in the front drives, and the one in the back uses items. Sometimes when you get hit by a strong item, lets say a blue shell, the back character will be getting dragged, holding on to the kart, the back character is unusable for the moment. Grand Prix: The game has different classes on the Grand Prix. 50cc slow and for beginners. 100cc A bit challenging. 150cc Very hard, not due to skills, but because in this class, they CPUs will throw blue shells. And last is mirror mode, its like 150cc, but with mirrored-stages The heavy characters always tend to be first on 150cc and mirror mode. Characters: You get to unlock very few amount of characters in this game. But Mario Kart DD, till this day, is the only Mario Kart game with character specials. Bowser throws huge spiny shell, knocking out anyone in its path. Baby Mario, getting the Chain Chomp is like the early Bullet Bill, but when it releases you, it sometimes throws you to a hole. Karts: This game has only karts, unlike Mario Kart Wii. There are 3 kart classes: Light, Medium, and Heavy. There are also three vehicle stats: Weight: How likely you will get pushed, the more the weight, the less times you'll get pushed. Heavy characters tend to have this more obviously. Acceleration: How fast you will reach top speed. Light karts usually have the highest acceleration. Speed: Your top speed. This isn't that important especially when all the karts in the game are only about 5 miles apart from each other. Stages: The stages are designed good. There are many different types of stages, like some stages are fire, desserts, in the city, etc. Items: You already should know the items on a Mario Kart game, red shells, green shells, blue shells, bananas and more. The only different items in the game are the character special items. You get the special items in a different place. Lets say since Yoshi's special isn't that good, I will usually get it when I'm first, second or third. Lets say Baby Mario's special is very good, you'll only get it when your about last. So if you tend to be in front of everyone, you can't get some special items, depending on who your using. Also in this game, when you ram someone with a mushroom, you get there items which is very cool, something they don't have in Mario Kart Wii. Battle: I love the battles in this game. Its fun when you have someone playing with you. There are three types of battles: Balloon Battle: Try to hit characters with items, when you hit them, you pop a balloon from them. Shine Thief: I never really played this one, but theres one shinesprite, you get it, and run away while the other people are chasing you to get it. When the time runs out the person who ever has it wins. This challenges your evasion skills. Bob-omb Battle: I love this mode, all you get is bombs and you have to hit people with them. The person with the most hits wins.
So to wrap it all up, this game is very fun in my opinion. And was one of the best games that kept me entertained when I was a kid. |
